Twilight Eclipse Now Playing Worldwide – June 30
For all the Twi-hards out there, the buzz intrigued, and your average movie-goer — today is a day of rejoicing! At midnight Wednesday morning, Twilight Eclipse was unleashed in 4,416 locations, with more expected to be added Friday.
Eclipse to Make History
The record number of theaters shown, previous held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is only 39 locations away from being broken. Yet another early record to be broken by Twilight Eclipse! As Eclipse has already broken the widest opening net ever, previous held by Iron Man 2, we can safely say that this is just the beginning of records that Twilight Eclipse will be breaking, or potentially shattering! With 193 IMAX openings, Eclipse fell only 1 short of topping the record held by Shrek Forever After, which has destroyed the box-office lately (along with Toy Story 3), and now has finally met a worthy challenger.
Will The Last Airbender Put Up a Fight?
Being released on Thursday, The Last Airbender, Paramount Pictures hopes that the mass-appeal of the Avatar cartoon franchise will bring in a larger audience over the weekend, once the Twi-hards have already seen Eclipse (for the 7th time!!). It will certainly be an interesting weekend.. and we are excited to see how it plays out! The Last Airbender and Twilight Eclipse have both received a majority of glowing reviews from fans and professional movie critics alike. The main disadvantage for Airbender, and this is crucial, is that it is opening in only around 3,000 locations tomorrow. That means Eclipse has 25% of the market on lock, opening in over 4,400 locations. So the war is eminent, victory is uncertain, but we say advantage Eclipse.
We are eager to see the box-office numbers and records broken by Twilight Eclipse, stay tuned!
